The 'who' command

You can find out who else is using the UNIX® system with the 'who' command. This lists the users who are on the system at the present time. Depending on your system, it may also display the name of the termanal they are logged in at, and the time and date when they logged in.

When you are on a large system, used by many users, you may use the command to find out if a friend is currently logged in.

On many systems, you may also use the command 'w'. This provides a similar list with more detail - type 'man w' to find out more about this command.
